Recycling Statement

Recycling of Electricals:

You can now recycle your old electrical items with us….

If you are purchasing new electrical items from Craftasmic, such as a Hot Gun Craft Tool or electrical Embossing Machine we will recycle your old one for free.

Why recycle?

Unwanted electrical equipment is the UKs fastest growing type of waste.

Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health.

We can help

We are pleased to offer our customers the chance to recycle their old electrical items. If you have bought a new electrical item from us, you may send us your old one (please make sure it is the same type ie if you bought a Craft Heat Gun you must send us your old Heat Gun). Just send the old item, within 30 days of your new purchase, back to us.  If you wish to do this make contact with us and we will send you the address to use for sending electrical items for recycling back to us.

Please note you will be liable for the postage costs to send to us.

What is WEEE?

The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items. In the UK, distributors (including retailers) must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. Those establishing their own take-back scheme must as a minimum offer all customers buying new electrical equipment free take back of their old electricals on a like-for-like basis.

All new electrical equipment that you purchase from Craftasmic is marked with the crossed wheelie-bin symbol shown here, to remind you that such goods must not be thrown away with normal household waste at the end of their working life. Please help us to help the environment by disposing of all your waste in a responsible manner.

Find more information on WEEE recycling, and locate your local recycling centre, at www.recyclenow.com.

What if it still works and I just needed (wanted!) the latest model?

If you have an electrical item that is still in good working condition, consider the following options:

Pass them on to Charity and re-use organisations, a local charity craft group or maybe another friendly crafter who would like to give them a new home? Maybe sell them on and make some money for further crafty goods?!

It's easy to check if an electrical item is recyclable. Simply ask the following questions:

  • Does it have a plug?
  • Does it use batteries?
  • Does it need charging?
  • Does it have a picture of a crossed out wheelie bin on it?

If you answer yes to any of these, it can be recycled. So check to see if your council offers a household recycling collection for small electricals or, if not, take them to your local recycling centre.

Our Packaging:

It is necessary to use robust packaging for our products, to minimise the risk of transit damage and ensure that products get to our customers in a satisfactory condition.

To ensure your craft items arrive in great condition we cut no corners and use some of the best packing materials around, and more importantly it’s one of the greenest brands of packaging which removes the need for environmentally unfriendly void fill.  Our packaging is supplied by a UK company who are committed to minimising their impact on the environment.

All our outer packaging is made from environmentally friendly materials.  It is 100% recyclable and made from 100% recycled materials - even the polythene bags.  If we need to protect your items further when we’re packing them we use ‘hivewrap’, a paper based alternative to bubble wrap, and if necessary 100% recycled paper protective filling.  We seal all our delivery packages with brown gummed paper tape. All this delivery packaging is 100% recyclable.

If you are buying products such as paints, glues or liquid based products, we will heat seal these to protect them from damage and to save using more miles and packaging by replacing them.  Due to the nature of the product we have to use a low density polythene packaging which can be recycled.  You can check where you are able to recycle this in your local area using the recycling locator below.

The only time you may have your products wrapped in bubble wrap which may contain plastic is when we are reusing packaging from our suppliers - we’d much rather reuse than throw away!

We encourage all our customers to recycle the packaging supplied with the product.  Some of our customers have even discovered that our hivewrap and other paper fillings are such good quality, they make great additions to your crafting stash! Please utilise the waste collection and recycling service operated by your local authority, or take the waste packaging to a suitable recycling point.

Further information about the recycling of packaging can be found on the following websites: www.recyclenow.comwww.wrap.org.uk.
